Partigen 2 ActionScript Effect Library Released

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

The original Partigen was the first of it’s kind – a realtime particle effects component for Flash that could be used with a few clicks of the mouse. The downside, was the API was closed and nothing was open source… and it was in AS2.

After 11 months of development, and 3 months since the last beta release, the open source AS3 particle effects library Partigen 2 is now out of beta and has been officially released! You can grab it now:

http://desuade.com/partigen/download

Along with the particle system, an entire motion package featuring tweening, physics, sequencing, and the exclusive motioncontroller was built to power all those particles. Cleverly named the “Desuade Motion Package”, it has been released as well as version 1.0.

Both packages are being developed together, and those looking for just a powerful animation package for AS3 can use it independently.

I will be finishing up getting the Partigen 2 plugin ready for a release over the next few days, so be sure to keep an eye out for that. If you are excited about this, you should tell somebody else who might be interested.. as I’m sure they’d love you for it!

I’m starting to get really excited.. can you feel excited about this yet?

Partigen 2 and DMP RC2 – Almost There…

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Desuade Partigen 2 and the Desuade Motion Package are almost done! This is the last release before the final “dot-oh” releases, and the commercial component for Partigen 2. There’s less than a month before Flash on the Beach, and things should be up just in time!

This is mostly a bug fix/tweak release for the DMP, but Partigen sees a shiny new toy… the BitmapRenderer.

The BitmapRenderer was originally going to be put on hold until 2.1, but it was just too easy to build and too powerful to leave out. Example fla for Partigen has an example of using the BR, so be sure to check it out now to see a lot of particles… and motion trails.

Flash on the Beach 09 Brighton

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Exciting news! I will be speaking at FOTB in Brighton this year as one of the 3 Minute Wonders, flying all the way in from the USA.

I plan on doing a quick pitch on Desuade Partigen 2, and hopefully a bit of inspiration to boot. This will be the first talk about Partigen, and I can’t wait to tell people about it!

This is the first time for me personally that I’ve been to the UK, let alone out of the country, so it’ll be a great experience. If anybody is going to attend, please let me know, I’d love meeting up!

Desuade Website Relaunched!

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Desuade.com v2 is live: http://desuade.com/

The original desuade.com website has been up for about 2-3 years, and it was time for a refresh. The first design was, in my opinion, a beautiful work of a typography-based design, but like most people, I felt it was too much text. That, along with new products and a slew of new experience, it was long over-due for a re-haul.

The new site is a bit snazzier, and although there is still a bit of typography work, I feel there is a healthy balance of graphics and text.

Most importantly, the new site is smaller, easier to maintain, and straight to the point. Get what you want, and get it fast. It’s all about logical, coherent, instant gratification.

Next month, Partigen 2 will be launched. Until then, the Partigen pages in the site are logically unavailable, since Partigen 1 is not being sold anymore.

Over the next few days there will be some tweaking here and there of content and backend optimizations, so a few site quirks may occur.

Any feedback on navigation, page layout, or content would be appreciated. The user experience is what counts, and if something missing, please let me know!

Desuade.com Server Migration/Relaunch

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

In preparation of the new products and site redesign launch, it has also been decided to migrate to a new VPS server as well. This should make the site and all subdomains a lot snappier.

The forums and blog should be up and running as normal, and seem to be super fast.

The main desuade.com site will be back up next week with a redesign, as well as making DMP and Partigen 2 libraries available.

UPDATE: DLP server is offline until DLP2 is up and running. Users trying to activate/deactivate Partigen 1.x may experience disruptions in service. We are working on a way to keep legacy products usable in the platform, instead of a quick fix. Thank you for you support in this large upgrade.

Partigen 1.1 Being Discontinued

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

In preparation of Partigen 2, the current version of Partigen 1 will be discontinued at the end of the month. This means that you only have until May 31st to get your license for Partigen 1.1.

Support for Partigen 1.1 will continue to the end of this year.

It’s understood that this may affect a small percentage of users that still use AS2. In order to continue the kind of innovation Desuade is known for, focus needs to be placed on the future and the majority of Flash users have made the transition to AS3. Partigen 1 is over 3 years old and it is time for it to retire and make way for version 2.

Thank you for your support in this move to better serve the Flash community as a whole.

*Update: The Desuade website is currently being redesigned and prepping for relaunch in the coming weeks. Due to the original short-notice, Partigen will still be available for purchase until the new launch.

Partigen 2 in Development – AS3 Particle Effects!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Hello everyone! It’s been awhile since I have updated the community on what’s happening with Desuade and Partigen, so I thought I’d take a moment to do so because I’m sure you’re curious.

Partigen 2 – Ok, so cat’s out of the bag. Partigen 2 has been under development for a few months now, and will be entirely in AS3 for Flash CS3 and CS4. Partigen is being completely rewritten from scratch, and will make 1.1 look like a square wheel – it’s almost too powerful.

This time around, something’s going to be different. The Partigen 2 engine and ActionScript classes will be released 100% free, Open Source. That’s right, you read that correctly – free. It will be distributed and open for contributions from the public via github.

There will still be a commercially supported plugin for Flash, for those users who wish for this and all the same preset effects and easy point and click configuration. Again, this is going to blow the previous version out of the water.

By now I’m sure you’re wondering, when exactly is it going to be released, weren’t you? Well if you’re compelled to know all about Partigen, then I would have to say you can feel excited about beginning to get anticipated for the release in about 2 months!

So tell everyone you know now, get them excited about it – because Partigen 2 is going to be epic, and it’s just like when you were a kid, the night before Christmas, feeling giddy with excitement, waiting for just what you wanted this all along.

You can expect more updates soon!
